For a change
Many mothers would bargain with me on the tuition fees, one thing that I find it odd and don’t how to handle.I wonder do they do the same when they purchase a bottle of Phentermine! Sometime I would give a discount, sometime I won’t, but over the last two years, I learned that it’s ok not to, because most of them just ask but don’t expect it.
I am not so sure this happened anywhere else. My neighbor who runs a laundry shop claimed that it’s the trait of Malaccans and Penangnites. :-) Well, he is originally from Penang, I guess he probably make that conclusion based on his experience.
Today, something different happened. A mother paid me more than she supposed to and said “Keep the change!” It was RM15 more than she supposed to pay me.
Is she so rich that she decided to pay me more? I don’t think so. She and her family live in a medium cost flat, her husband runs a furniture shop and she drives a lorry delivers furniture, sometime until very late. She is just being generous, I guess.

I believe it happens most places (in Asia.. nyahahaha)… We tend to seek for free stuffs if possible. But if cant get ‘em, at least ada cuba la! I dont really like the idea of asking for discount, coz I try to appreciate others profesionalism… but sometimes, its a habit to ask… without expecting anything! Try luck! If given, its a bonus! ;) Sounded so cheapskate!
In KL , a lot of parents are willing to pay especially with good teachers, they will willingly to pay more to keep the teacher. Hardly any one ask for discount if the price is at the market range…(My parents are tuition teachers..that’s why I know. :D)

Spend thrift is wise.
Asking for discount with my already cheap cheap tuition fee is too much.:-)

I used to do home tutoring when I study/work in PJ. Yeah, parents didn’t bargain and were willing pay RM80-RM100 per hour for A-level math tuition.
Here in Melaka, it’s pathetic, you charged RM40 per month for SPM add math tuition, some parents will tell you, the other teachers down the street charged RM35.:-)Well, I guess it’s a trade off, cost of living and housing are much cheaper than Klang Valley.
